Google Drive is Google’s Solution to Dropbox

Indeed Google is on rampage!

Everyone, Google Docs is switching to Google Drive soon.

Google DriveGet ready to test-drive the Drive. Today I got this offer to try out the new Google Drive when I was on Google Docs. So I switched!

Honestly, I’m looking forward to use Google Drive in a more consistent basis. This switch seems to be quite promising. I mean just this past week I was lamenting the fact that Dropbox couldn’t efficiently handle simultaneous editing from multiple users. So I had to switch back to Google Docs for collaboration purposes. The catch is, although Google Docs do the basics of collaborating work quite beautifully, I’m not entirely satisfied with their limited functionality in formatting and file types.

Google Drive promises the addition of new file types such as videos, tables, and more. I haven’t yet tested all these features and their editing capabilities, but soon we’ll find out.

Another added value is the way your Google Drive will sync all your documents in all your devices. All you need to do is download Google Drive on your devices. Just like how Dropbox works, but now you can perform collaboration work more smoothly. Well, that’s what we hope it’ll do anyway.

In short, Google Drive is Google’s attempt to merge the functionalities from Google Docs and Dropbox. Right now, you can use Google Drive for free storage up to 5 GB.

Excited yet? Go download Google Drive and test it yourself!

Lapis Legit

This Indonesian cake is called “Spekkoek” or “Lapis Legit.” It’s a very flavorful, moist, eggy multi-layered cake. Sounds delicious, doesn’t it?

I’m writing this post to challenge myself so that I’d try out a Food network recipe for Lapis Legit. The recipe actually looks pretty complicated.

Total time to prep and cook is about an hour.

There are so many ingredients involved in baking this cake. I don’t even know what some of them are. Let alone if I can find them in a local grocery store. Anyways, here is Emeril Lagasse’s recipe for Lapis Legit. I’m curious if his recipe would turn out authentic enough for this unknown, exotic cake.

Ingredients:

Lapis Legit

2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground mace
1 teaspoon ground cardamom
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground anise
3 sticks unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
12 large eggs, separated
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar

Search Description for Blogger Post

Blogger is on a roll!

Just want to let you know that Blogger has activated their Search Description not only for the Blog itself (i.e. Blog Description), but for every post! This means you can edit the meta description on your every post. See the red arrow below to locate the meta description of a link on a search engine result page.

Blogger Search Description

So as you are writing your new post on Blogger, pay attention to the right column where you would find the Search Description box. Remember, ideally this Search Description should contain about 155 characters.

More Blogger Updates: Alt Text and NoFollow Links

I know it is rather ironic that I’ve been posting Blogger Updates on my WordPress blog. In case you are curious, I do have another blog on Blogger, check out www.simplykatherine.com.

Just a short notification for those who are bloggers on Blogger. After upgrading the heading formatting and search preferences, I also noticed that Blogger is adding more features for search engine optimization.

Such changes reflect the maturity of Google’s behavior in its updates, unlike Facebook with its overwhelming, unsettling Timeline change.

Blogger’s New Updates!

Good news, everyone!

Blogger Updates

Blogger has made some new updates.

As far as I know, they made two MAJOR improvements.

First, their New Post page includes heading options now! This is very important for crawlers or spider bots.

To the search bots, heading tag has been one of the most reliable signals for what’s in the content. In the offline world, it’s like how headlines on the newspapers allows you to catch the gist of the articles.

This is, more or less, the mechanism of how search engine crawlers skim over content and determine relevance to a search phrase that a user is aiming for.

In the past, I had to manually add heading tags onto my Blogger’s posts (using the HTML editor). Although it is not as detailed as WordPress’ options, Blogger now provides the following formatting: Heading, Subheading, Minor Heading, and Normal. Good enough for me.

Secondly, Blogger has also added a new feature under Settings, entitled Search Preferences. I can now add meta tags, tweak with robots.txt, page redirects, etc.

These are mainly for advanced users because making mistakes in editing these search preferences can make your blog totally ignored by search engines.

Like I said before, Google will not let WordPress control the whole market of blogging platform. I think Blogger has been endeavoring to improve its functionality without copying what WordPress has offered.

Some basic things such as heading tags and search preferences cannot be ignored any longer.

At this point, I’m loving the changes. Besides, Blogger’s layout and template designer are definitely easier to work with than WordPress.com’s rigid themes.

I’m waiting for MORE. I hope Blogger would add a feature to customize permalink. I mean people have done tricks to make their own link structure on Blogger, why not make it official?

That would be a quantum leap!
